Iowa Court of Appeals to Hear Oral Arguments in State Capitol Historic Courtroom to Commemorate 50th Anniversary
As part of the ongoing commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the creation of the Iowa Court of Appeals, the court returns to the Iowa State Capitol Historic Courtroom to hold oral arguments on September 10, 2026. Three separate panels of the court will convene at 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. to each hear three cases from across Iowa.
Like all the court’s oral argument sessions, these sessions are open to the public. Members of the public are welcome to attend all or any part of the session. Oral argument for each case typically lasts about thirty minutes. The cases will also be live-streamed on the court’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@iowacourtofappeals8597
The Iowa Legislature established the Iowa Court of Appeals by a statute that became effective July 1, 1976. In September 1976, Governor Robert D. Ray appointed its first five judges and administered the oath of office to them in a special session of the Iowa Supreme Court in the historic courtroom. And until the Iowa Judicial Branch Building was completed in 2003, the Iowa Court of Appeals held all its regular oral argument sessions in the historic courtroom.
